Kibwezi teachers training college director Joyce Nzivo has expressed fear that there is high possibility of locking many students out due to higher grade set by the government.
She called upon the government to revisit the diploma programme before it’s rolled out in May when the qualified students will be joining different teachers colleges.
Certificate in P1 training programme was phased out last year by the government.
Speaking at Kibwezi town, Nzivo said in the past they were picking students with grade D+ for certificate, but now the grade has been raised to C plain with specific grades in mandatory subjects for Diploma in teacher education.
“Subjects like Maths, English, Kiswahili, one science and one humanity the entry grade will be C plain,” she said.
Kibwezi sub county director of education Kennedy Machora said the teachers Diploma is going hand in hand with CBC.
