More than 200 students who are yet to report to school at Turi Sulgwita Secondary School in Molo, Nakuru County will be arrested together with their parents, Education CAS Zack Kinuthia has warned.

“We will not hesitate in arresting those who are hindering their children from going to school,” said Kinuthia, adding that every child has a right to education.

Kinuthia was speaking at school after commissioning a new laboratory. He also commissioned a school bus at Njenga Karume Secondary School.

The CAS said school girls who are pregnant or have given birth should be assisted to continue with their education.

Sulgwita Secondary School Principal Charles Gachoya said some students had transferred to other schools.

“We have three cases of students who are pregnant. Some have either been married off or moved to unknown destinations,” he said.

A spot check by Education News shows that Kuresoi North Sub County has the highest number of students who have either become pregnant or married.

Kuresoi North Deputy County Commissioner Felix Watakila said 55 students had been reported pregnant in the sub-county with more than 45 having given birth.
