Maiyo retains Uasin Gishu KUPPET Executive Secretary seat

Elijah Maiyo has been re-elected the Uasin Gishu Kenya Union of Post Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET) Executive Secretary.

Maiyo garnered 933 votes as the first runners-up Jane Talai had 361 votes. 

Speaking to the press after he was declared the winner, Maiyo pledged to serve members with dedication. 

“I want to assure teachers that I will work round the clock to ensure that their rights are not infringed,” Maiyo said.

He congratulated members for carrying out peaceful elections and called for unity. 

“Elections are now over. Let’s work together whether you supported me or not. I will serve everyone equally,” Maiyo said.

The chairperson seat went to Sosten Belal (877 votes) while the former Uasin Gishu KUPPET chairman Henry Talam got 417.

Kiptoo Geoffrey was elected Treasurer while the assistant Treasurer position went to Peter Korir.

Celestine Cheptula was chosen as Secretary Gender.

Others who were elected are Richard Mibey who won the assistant Executive Secretary post.  

Abraham Morogo was elected vice chairman with 929 votes while his rival Alex Kiptanui garnered 368 votes. 

KUPPET national acting chairman Julius Korir said the elections were free and fair. 

“I thank teachers for electing their leaders peacefully. This is the way to go,” he said.
