Since time immemorial, journalists have been known to be receiving money either to kill a story or to report an incident but this was not the case in Migori County last week.
Migori Journalists Association paid a surprise visit to Good Samaritan Children’s Home in Migori in a bid to give back to society.
Addressing the press during the event, the Association’s Chair Mr. George Juma of Radio Ramogi urged leaders and other interested parties to give a shoulder to lean on to the vulnerable children in the society.
He added that it is important to make such children feel that they are part of society by giving them the needed support and parental care.
“I urge society to look into ways of getting a time within their tight schedule to spend time with children in children’s homes for parental love and care,” said Juma.
“Psychological development of a child begins from the love, care and attention they receive as children. It also impacts their lives when they become adults,” added Juma.
On the other hand, Geoffrey Omondi, the orphanage Manager applauded the journalists for the noble action to share with the children by giving food, clothes and other support.
“I am pleased with the move that the Association has taken to share and spend time with us at the facility. This not only shows that they care and have the children at heart but also highlight issues related to children at the orphanage,” said Omondi.
Omondi revealed that the support they have been receiving for running the facility has shrunk immensely.
He, however, called on the well-wishers to support all orphanages within their area of residence to help the children live comfortably despite not having their parents with them.
