924 Early Childhood Development and Education (ECDE) teachers in Kwale County have been employed and placed under permanent and pensionable terms, County Executive Committee Member (CECM) in charge of education Mishi Kaole has said.
She was fielding questions from Education News in Kwale town, where she revealed that the teachers have already been trained on the new Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC).
She disclosed that the county government has prioritized education by ensuring that all young children go to school.
The CECM said ECDE plays a vital role of laying a strong foundation for the young before graduating to primary school education.
“Children who undergo ECDE have little difficulty reading and writing when they join lower primary school,” Mishi explained.
The county currently has a total of 913 ECDE centres with an enrollment of 59,822 children.
“Although the enrolment has greatly improved, there is still room for improvement,” she said, suggesting that there are children who are still stuck at home while their age mates attend school.
