900 teachers needed to end understaffing in Lamu

Lamu County requires 900 teachers to end understaffing in schools, Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) Lamu Executive Secretary Ibrahim Shaibu has revealed.

He said the county is facing serious teacher shortages and pleaded with the government to recruit more and deploy them to the county with a view to filling the gaps.

Shaibu further projected serious disruptions of the Competency Based Curriculum (CBC) if the crisis is not addressed, at the same time blaming poor teacher to student ratios on poor performance in national examinations.
