89 students in Machakos county have been selected as beneficiaries of the Elimu and Jomo Kenyatta Foundation scholarship programmes.

Matungulu Senior Assistant County Commissioner Philip Kisuo noted that 32 candidates were selected from the sub county.

He confirmed that the lot will get full scholarship from the government which includes; fare, shopping and school fees.

Equity Bank Tala branch Operations Manager Stephen Maele said that 9,000 students countrywide will benefit from the programme.

“This is the second cohort in the two sub counties since the program began years ago,” said Maele.

Most of the beneficiaries were excited and said that their dreams were coming true.

“I’m so excited I will be joining Tala High school after much struggle. I aspire to be a pilot and I’m grateful for having been considered for this program,” said John Muli, a beneficiary from Katine village.

Area Chief Francis Mulinge warned parents against waiting until the last minute to look for sponsors.

He asked them to apply after release of the examination results instead of few days before the deadline of scholarship applications.
