77 prisoners to sit for national exams in Nakuru

14 prisoners sitting for KPSEA and 25 others sitting for KCPE are among 77 prisoners in Nakuru county set to sit for national examinations.

Nakuru County Director of Education Fredrick Osewe revealed that in Naivasha GK Prisons, 14, 25 and 22 candidates will sit for KPSEA, KCPE and KCSE examinations respectively while in Nakuru GK Prisons 14 males and 11 female prisoners will sit for KCSE.

The Director noted that 47,664 candidates will sit for the 2022 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examination in the county with 23,646 boys and 24,115 girls in 484 examination centres.

He said that everything has been put in place to ensure that the candidates proceed with their examinations without distractions.

“We have put everything in place to ensure the examination process is conducted smoothly and every candidate gets the opportunity to do all papers. Also, 964 security officers have been posted to every examination centre to ensure the process is conducted in a conducive environment,“ said Osewe.

Furthermore, he said that he expects all candidates to get C+ and above to get an opportunity to join various universities in the country.

Osewe asked all parents in the County to give the candidates, especially those from day schools, necessary support to enable them excel.

”The performance of our candidates is determined by teachers, parents and students. Every person should play his or her role to ensure we produce good results,” he said.

He also asked all candidates to ensure they register with Kenya University and College Placement Servicee (KUCCPS) before they leave school to stand a chance to benefit from Higher Education Loans Board (HELB) loans.

He further urged parents to take good care of their children during the incoming holiday season.

Osewe noted that parents play a major role in the character development of their children and should be at the forefront in instilling discipline.

“Don’t sit down and watch your sons and daughters go astray, instead you should correct them to ensure they are responsible hardworking citizens,” he said.
