Taita Taveta County is in urgent need of more primary school teachers.

In order to boost the number of teachers in understaffed schools the county requires over 700 teachers.

Speaking to Education News from Wundanyi town recently, the Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) Taita Taveta county branch Executive Secretary, Mr. Lennox Mshila urged the government to recruit more teachers in the country and deploy them to the county.

He stated that the move would enable teachers in the county to discharge their dutiesmore efficiently and effectively.

“Currently teachers in the region are overworked due to teacher shortage which is affecting teaching in many schools across the county.” He said

He added that by the virtue of many schools in the county being understaffed the school children are disadvantaged.

He attributed dismal performance in national Examinations in schools in the county to teacher shortage.

He however asked the existing teachers in the area to be dedicated to their work in order to post impressive results in their schools in the 2021 Kenya Certificate of Primary Education – KCPE.
