700 students sponsored by Kisii MP flagged off

MP MP

Seven hundred beneficiaries of the Osoro Education Club scholarship programme by South Mugirango Member of Parliament (MP) Sylvanus Osoro have been urged to work hard in their studies to show appreciation for the sponsorship.

While flagging off the beneficiaries at a ceremony in Nyamambe town, he revealed that he launched the sponsorship to add on to the NG-CDF funds which he said were insufficient to accommodate the many needy students who applied for the kitty.

The MP noted that the best way to fight poverty is through sponsoring bright children to acquire education and appealed to other well-wishers to join his efforts to ensure all children in the area are educated.

Osoro noted that issuance of the funds will be done termly where the beneficiaries are scrutinized before they qualify for another fund allocation and assigned mentors afterwards based on their career choices.

He urged the programme’s board of directors to be transparent and accountable in the discharge of their services.

Former Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) Executive Secretary Joseph Makabe asked residents to diversify their agricultural activities by planting other farm products such as bananas, pineapples, tea and coffee to assist them to pay school fees for their children.

He said that the area is famous for producing great scholars and expressed his optimism of the revival of education excellence in the region.
