The process of retooling all Junior Secondary Schools (JSS) teachers began in West Pokot at Nasokol Girls Secondary that saw over 600 Teachers famously referred to as “moguls” turn up in earnest.
West Pokot Deputy Teachers Service Commission (TSC) Director, Joseph Nzioka, asked the trainees to take advantage of the government’s capacity building initiative since it will make them relevant to the learners that they serve.
He added that the TSC will always support continuous retooling of all teachers to ensure that they have fully complied with the Competency Based Curriculum demands. Nzioka said that the new curriculum requires innovative humans that would rekindle the glory of the teaching profession. He added that all these efforts are geared towards ensuring quality, equity and relevance are upheld.
The deputy director said that teachers should brace for continuous learning programmes that are well designed by the Kenya Institute of curriculum development, TSC, Ministry Of Education and other partners who are all committed to ensuring effective integration of Information Communication Technology in developing teaching and learning processes.

The moderator of trainers Dr Nakhisa Kusimba outlined that it was time to shift from the old archaic of chalk talk and lecture methods to remote learning through digital technology which would eventually make learning process more interesting.
He added that improvement of the education system for any given country affects all sectors of the economy and thus improves the quality of life for all people.
The chairman of all curriculum support officers in West Pokot, Neilson Musani advised that education is dynamic and it was important for teachers that they acquire the right competencies, skills, values and attitudes so that they can effectively deliver in line with the ever changing demands of the 21st century teacher.
On their side, the trainees decried poor infrastructure, very large classrooms and low literacy levels among the learners as well as parents.
