The government is currently training 523 Kilifi teachers to go and teach in Junior Secondary Schools (JSS) in the county.
Speaking during the official launch of a Science Laboratory for the JSS students at Kingsway Junior School in Malindi town recently, new Kilifi County Director of Education, Voronica Kalungu Mwaka said that the training of the 523 teachers in all the seven sub-counties in the county started on April 25 and is expected to end on April 28, 2023.
She further noted that the training will enable them to discharge their daily duties more efficiently and effectively.
The Director however advised school Boards of Management (BoM) in the region to strictly comply with the Ministry of Education rules and regulations when constructing new classrooms so as to enable students learn in conducise environments.
However, Mwaka emphasized the importance of compliance, noting that the trend would enable the Boards to operate effectively.
She further warned that the government will not approve new school construction plans which do not meet the requirements.
Mwaka called on BoMs and other education stakeholders in the county to work as a team and equip their schools with the necessary learning facilities to enhance effective teaching and learning.
She also asked teachers in the region to double their efforts towards their work in a bid to post better results in both the 2023 Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) and Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examinations in their schools.
At the same time, Mwaka commended Kingsway Junior School in Malindi Sub-county for its exemplary performance in 2022 KCPE.
“Kingsway Junior School is one of the most performing schools in Malindi Sub-county and Kilifi County at large in terms of posting impressive performance in national examinations,” she observed.
She further revealed that Kingsway Junior School is among the first private schools in Kilifi County to construct a Science Laboratory for the JSS students.
She also urged other private schools in Kilifi County to emulate Kingsway Junior School and build Science Laboratories for the JSS students to enable them learn effectively.
