50 beneficiaries of Power Learn Project training programme graduate

50 students from Kisumu county have graduated with digital skills offered by Power Learn Project in partnership with Compassion Kenya.

The project aims to make digital skills affordable and accessible in Kisumu through accessible and affordable tech training for youth across Africa.

Power Learn Project’s Chief Growth and Operations Officer Mumbi Ndung’u stated that the software development program was done in conjunction with the county government of Kisumu.

She stated that the programme is the first of many programmes the organization intends to do at in line with its mission of making digital skills accessible and affordable.

“The learners gained quality skills required in the local and international market to allow them to compete for opportunities at a fair level. Our partnership with Compassion Kenya has allowed us to create solutions at a local level that will have a tremendous effect on the young people’s lives and the communities they live in,” she proudly stated.

She noted that as a result of digital revolution, the potential educational benefits of digital technologies have become apparent.

Carol Wamiti, Senior Program Manager at Compassion International Kenya, said theirs is an impact organization that aims to transform child advocacy and holistic child development, particularly for children living in extreme poverty.

‘We value our cooperation with Power Learn Project because it advances our mission of giving young people the tools and resources for a better life. No resource is more valuable than today’s young people when it comes to shaping the future of the world,” she stated.

Kisumu County Executive Committee Member for Trade, Tourism and Marketing Farida Salim congratulated the graduates and urged them to use the skills acquired to pursue career advancement possibilities.

She also commended both the Power Learn project and Compassion Kenya for recognizing and choosing Kisumu county for the pilot programme.

“The county government is committed to work with partners in the private sector to empower its young people with skills to compete globally. Such programs are at the heart of our mission and service to our people,” Salim said.

Launched in April 2022 in Kenya, Power Learn Project is a Pan African organization working to drive transformative change by empowering youth through providing quality, affordable, and decentralized software development and smart technologies training and opportunities for work thereafter.

The organization has a presence in over 5 African countries and an estimated 10,000 software developers in training. The first cohort of 1,000 having graduated in December 2022.
