Detectives in Central Kanyamkago, Migori County, have launched a preliminary investigation into the death of a five-year old child who was strangled to death using her uniform while on her way to school.
The body of the deceased who, according to her parents, was in good health when she left home earlier today, was discovered not far from where she lived by passers-by, leaving the community in a sombre mood.
Central Kanyamkago Location Chief George Odhiambo, confirming the incident, urged parents in the area to ensure their children are safe at all time as it is painful to lose young and vibrant kids.
The body of the young girl has since been moved to Migori Referral Hospital mortuary for an autopsy to provide further information that might assist in the investigations.
The motive behind this heinous crime remains unclear as the family of the decease call on the authorities to ensure that justice is served.
Police have appealed to the public for any information that could help resolve the case, urging anyone with knowledge of the incident to come forward.
