Uasin Gishu County Deputy Governor (DG) Eng. John Barorot has flagged off 44 students headed to LUT University in Finland for higher education.

Speaking during the event at the county headquarters in Eldoret town, Eng. Barorot challenged the students to be good Kenyan ambassadors while in Finland and focus on their studies.

“As we flag you off to Finland, I want you to act as our ambassadors by practicing good morals and pursuing your education goals,” he said.

He affirmed the county’s commitment to ensuring the abroad studies programme is made transparent to seal loopholes that might be used to take advantage of students and parents.

“We want to ensure that our students get quality education,” said Eng. Barorot.

Education County Executive Committee Member (CECM) Dr. Janeth Kosgei said the county is working on expanding the programme to cover more counties.

The students’ parents thanked the county for providing an opportunity for their children to study abroad.

Some of the parents who spoke to Education News expressed optimism that despite the challenges the initiative has faced, it will benefit a lot of students.

During the event, the 44 students were issued with air tickets, residence permits and visas.

They will all be studying at LUT University pursuing Engineering courses including Energy, Environmental, Mechanical and Electrical engineering.
