42,927 candidates who sat 2023 KCPE exams to join national schools

Education CS Ezekiel Machogu speaks during the release of the Form 1 placement results.

42,927 candidates, comprising 22,051 boys and 20,876 girls who sat the 2023 KCPE examinations, will join national schools in the wake of an assurance by the government of a 100 percent transition to secondary school.

Speaking while releasing the Form 1 placement results at Lenana School in Nairobi, Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu reassured that all the 1,406,557 candidates shall get placements.

He urged Regional and County Directors of Education to ensure that Principals of secondary schools do not impose additional levies on parents beyond the limit set by the Ministry of Education.

“The Constitution obligates the government to provide free and compulsory education, additional levies deny access to education for children with poor parents,” observed Machogu.

8,523 candidates attained 400 marks and above, a drop from 9,443 candidates in 2022.

The 2023 cohort will be the last ones under the 8-4-4 education curriculum with the country now transitioning to the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC).
