Nyamira county governor has employed 414 ECDE teachers on permanent and pensionable terms.

Speaking during the issuance of letters of confirmation to the beneficiaries at Uhuru Gardens in the county, Governor Amos Nyaribo said the absorbed teachers will help improve the education standards in the county.

The governor asked the new teachers to discharge their duties diligently.

“The teachers who have been working on contract will remain in their old centres after confirmation while others will be deployed to new centres to balance staffing in primary schools in each ward,” he added.

He promised that his government will employ the remaining lot of teachers in January next year.

“We intended to confirm 600 teachers this year but couldn’t do so due to administrative logistics,” he revealed.

Among those who benefitted from the long awaited employment was 45 year old Janet Nyabonyi who said she had almost lost hope of being absorbed by the government after working for ten years earning peanuts from parents.

Talking of the importance of good nutrition for holistic growth and development, the governor revealed that his government is in the process of introducing a school feeding programme in schools to encourage increased enrollment, retention  and sustenance of pupils in  schools.

The governor said his government will also champion for increased internet connectivity in each school.

“Our next inevitable programme is to make sure that each teacher has skills in ICT because it is very necessary for advancement in their profession and the wellbeing of our children, “said the governor.

The ceremony was attended by  Nyamira County Deputy governor Dr.James Gesami, the county Speaker Mr.Enock Okero and many MCAs.

Mr. Okero thanked the Governor for giving priority to education by employing professionals who will be the midwives of quality education.

He advised all parents to take their children to school to gain knowledge that will help them become the economic pillars of their families.
