CS Machogu has announced that some school heads have been providing inaccurate data regarding student enrollment leading to over 380, 000 students being denied Government funding for their education despite actively attending public schools and even participating in school meal programs.

The CS noted that some school heads have resorted to inputting student data into the National Education Management Information System (Nemis) from cyber cafes, resulting in flawed entries being transmitted to the Ministry of Education for funding allocation.

“Complicating matters further, it has come to light that some students’ information remains unregistered due to a lack of essential documentation, such as birth certificates,” he stated.

Machogu noted that this omission has left many students outside the purview of Nemis, rendering them ineligible for government funding.

“Consequently, these students have been inadvertently relying on the educational resources allocated for other students every academic year,” he lamented.

Additionally, Machogu emphasized that a comprehensive solution to this issue can only be achieved through the adoption of a new biometric registration system.

He further clarified that, while the Ministry of Education allows students without birth certificates to be registered on Nemis to accurately account for school enrollment, capitation funds will only be provided to students who are both registered on the system and possess valid birth certificates.

Machogu also underscored the government’s commitment to ensuring that all schools, regardless of their circumstances, receive the necessary funding for their students’ education.
