37 libraries to boost literacy in Makueni

Makueni County is set to get 37 new libraries courtesy of Shina Foundation in partnership with the County Government.

County First Lady Nazi Kibwana said they have already trained teachers who will man the libraries.

“We have already trained our gatekeepers for two days and we hope for the best when the real job starts,” she said.

The county purchased 30,000 textbooks while Shina Foundation topped up with 7,000 textbooks to equip the facilities.

Mrs Kibwana said the programme is an avenue to alleviate illiteracy in the county.

Steven Kioko, a resident, expressed his joy saying the programme will benefit many.
