360 female trainees graduate with skills at Kenyenya TTI under Canadian Govt sponsorship

360 female students have graduated from Kenyenya Technical Training Institute, (TTI) with skills in various technical disciplines courtesy of the Canadian government sponsorship.

Speaking while gracing the colourful graduation ceremony, Canadian STEM operations Manager Cpisye Harm who promised consistent partnership with Kenya to support the Strengthening of science Technical Education and Mathematics (STEM) as one of the best tools to empower the girl-child to claim her rightful social economic position in society.

She said the girl child plays an integral position as a future mother of the country and underscored the importance of equipping them with relevant skills that will enable them to compete favourably with their boy-child counterpart in the academic field.

She said that hers was a pilot project running in seven counties in the country, and expressed optimism of the project stretching to other counties.

“We do not monopolise knowledge that is why I remain hopeful that our project will end up covering many parts in this country and beyond.” She said.

She asked female professionals working in the science related fields to stand up in society and mix with the longing girl child to encourage and play role models to them.

Governor Simba Arati in a speech read on his behalf by County Executive Secretary to the Cabinet in charge of Education Margaret Obaga Arati, said the county will endeavor to work with both the public, the private sector and individuals of good will to empower women by supporting them to acquire technical skills which are market oriented in the current world of technological evolution.

Governor Arati told school leavers and even those who have completed University education but have not secured any job to seize the free County Government scholarship offered to female youth and even married people who are ready to train on practical science related careers to upscale themselves for relevant job placements.

He thanked the STEM team organization from Canada for steering the exercise and called on other organisations to follow suit.

During the occasion, Kenyenya Subcounty officer in charge of Health, Dr Ann Wanairi took the graduands on brief tip about sexual health reproduction and asked them to be conversant with its occurrences in order to avoid being victims of unwanted pregnancies which end up obstructing their studies and derail them from successful focus in their education.

The Chairman of the Institution David Orenge, unveiled their envisioned ambitious plan to embrace the Strengthening of Technical Education and Mathematics in partnership with other education stakeholders to empower the girl child in society.

He said the coming in of Canadian organization and other groups to the institution was a God sent opportunity and asked parents to enroll their children in the institution in big numbers to benefit from the rare opportunity.

The Institute Principal Kefaj Simba said through his institution, the STEM project has spread its tentacles to teach girls from some selected secondary schools in the region and was doing well.

He named Ndonyo from Etago Subcounty,Gianchere in Masaba South Subcounty and Entanda from Marani Subcounty,St.Payruck Mosocho from Kisii Central,Magenge, Amaiko and Ichuni National School as some of the beneficiaries.

He thanked the Kisii National Polytechnic Management for being in the forefront in steering the pioneering project that will be a big boost to girls.

Other organizations supporting the project include Barrett Family Foundation, Cap, Humber Polytechnic and Hub.

Dennis Muchiri the implementing partner in the project said that its main objective is to bridge the Gender gap in Education and employment.
