3,000 Form One students in boarding and day schools have been awarded bursaries worth Shs 27 million by Nakuru Town West Constituency Development Funds (CDF).

From the 3,000 students, 1,000  day school students  have been awarded Shs 10,000 each amounting to Shs 1 million  while the remaining 2,000 students in boarding schools will receive the remaining balance.

Speaking to the press at Nakuru Town West CDF offices, area MP Samuel Arama said the children were being awarded bursaries since it’s their right as their parents pay taxes.

“All needy students should be awarded bursaries. It is their right,” Arama said.

He promised to buy uniforms to all Form one students whose parents can’t afford to buy such due to poverty and harsh economic   times.

He urged all parents to ensure they take their children to school in order to comply with the government’s directive of 100 percent transition to form one.

“Parents should know that it’s a criminal offence to fail to educate their children. They can be arrested and prosecuted for doing so,” Arama said.

The MP said one of his key obligations is to support education in order to eliminate poverty which rocks most of his constituents.

“Through God’s mercy, am educating your children, so that they can eliminate poverty and boost their standards of living.” He said.
