Two thousand, five hundred Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) candidates have been assessed and certified since March this year, making them legible for employment and further knowledge acquisition, Kenya National Qualifications Authority (KNQA) Chairperson Stanley Kiptis has said.

Kiptis added that 650 RPL practitioners have already been trained and deployed to various colleges across the country.

He was speaking during the Africa Continental Qualifications Framework (ACQF) forum in Nairobi recently, where he highlighted that RPL is especially beneficial for Kenya’s 623,865 refugees and asylum seekers from countries such as Somalia, Congo and South Sudan, allowing them to formalize their skills.

Kiptis disclosed that the Kenya Credits Accumulation and Transfer System Policy framework was awaiting cabinet approval to facilitate clear education and career transitions.

He said that the policy aims to ensure flexibility in RPL assessments, noting that KNQA remains committed to developing a centralized qualifications database and aligning Kenya’s qualifications with global standards to enhance workers’ mobility and career progression.
