24 adult inmates consisting of 21 males and 3 females at Kisii Prisons and Rehabilitation Center have embarked on their KCPE examinations in Kisii Central Subcounty.

The Prisons assistant Chief in charge Abraham Gwani announced that the institution fielded 24 candidates.

“The institution’s commitment to their education was evident through the provision of ample learning materials and dedicated teachers, some of whom were fellow prisoners,” he stated.

Gwani mentioned that even the prison wardens chipped in, offering lessons during their free hours.

Additionally, he highlighted that among the candidates were six murder convicts, including 59-year-old grandmother Esther Moraa.

“Despite dropping out of school in Standard Five, her time in prison sparked a desire to resume her education,” Gwani said.

He noted that the sub-county presented 44, 214 candidates for the KCPE with the total candidates from Kisii County being 113, 000.
