A total of 25 people have been arrested after being linked with examination irregularities at a secondary school in Migori County.
According to the area OCPD Cletty Kimaiyo, the number includes 21 students, two invigilators, a supervisor and centre manager who were arrested on April 12, 2021.
They were manning Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) at Kurutiyange secondary school in Kehancha sub-county.
“21 students were found in possession of writing materials even after frisking was done before exams commenced.” Said Kimaiyo.
Kimaiyo noted that after they arrested the students and took them to the station for interrogation, they were able to establish that the students accessed the materials through the Center Manager who has since been arrested and taken to court.
Kimaiyo also noted that the students revealed they had been required to pay a fee of two thousand shillings before the national exams commenced to help facilitate the exam leakage.
“Some of the students told the police during the interrogation that they had paid the amount to be able to be provided with the exam materials,” he added.
He however noted that the students were allowed to go back to school to prepare for the exams but investigations were ongoing to establish where and how the school principal managed to get the exam materials which he shared with the students.
Meanwhile, four teachers who were arrested in connection to exam irregularities at Rongo secondary school in the same County, were released on bond of Sh 100,000 each or surety of same amount.
While warning them, Rongo Senior Residents Magistrate Raymond Langat warned the teachers that they shall be severely punished should they go near any exam centre. They were also required to report weekly to Rongo DCI offices.
