The 2025 Kenya Junior School Education Assessment (KJSEA) began smoothly this morning across the country, marking the start of the three-day national exercise for Junior Secondary School (JSS) learners under the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC).
Administered by the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC), the assessment is designed to test learners’ literacy, communication, and analytical skills.
According to the official KJSEA timetable, candidates today sat for English Language (901/1) and English Composition & Literary Analysis (901/2).
The English Language paper began at 8.30am and ended at 10.10am, with Braille candidates completing at 10.40am. After a 30-minute break, learners proceeded with English Composition & Literary Analysis, which ran from 11.10am to 12.55pm, while hearing-impaired and Braille candidates concluded at 1.05pm and 1.25pm, respectively.

Tomorrow, October 28, learners will sit Integrated Science (902/1) and Mathematics (902/2) papers. The Science paper will run from 8.30am to 10.10am, followed by Mathematics from 11.10am to 12.55pm, assessing problem-solving skills, practical understanding, and reasoning ability.
The final day, Wednesday, October 29, will feature Social Studies (903/1) and Religious Education (CRE/IRE/HRE) (903/2). Social Studies will be done from 8.30am to 10.10am, while Religious Education will run from 11.10am to 12.55pm. These papers will evaluate learners’ awareness of their social environment, moral values, and cultural diversity — key pillars of holistic education in the CBC.
