Organizers of the 2025 East Africa Games have officially confirmed the pools for the Rugby Fifteens competition and released the draw for the Rugby Sevens tournament, both of which will be played from August 12th to 23rd at the historic Kakamega Bullring.

In the Rugby Fifteens category, national champions Vihiga High School headline Pool A, which also includes Upper Hill School, Uganda’s traditional rugby giants Namilyango College, and Jinja Secondary School. The group has drawn attention for its competitive balance and is being widely regarded as the “Group of Death.”

Pool B will see defending East Africa champions All Saints Embu face off against Kisii School, Busoga College Mwiri, and Uganda’s current champions Kings College Budo. With both pools stacked with talent and history, fans can expect a fierce battle for semi-final slots.

On the other side of the tournament, the 2025 East Africa Games Rugby Sevens draw has also been announced, with the competition set to feature a Round Robin format. Only three countries; Kenya, Uganda, and Rwanda, will take part in the Sevens category this year, with teams competing across both boys’ and girls’ categories.

In the boys’ Sevens competition, Kenya will be represented by Saint Peters Mumias, Koyonzo Boys, Bungoma High, and Bwake Boys. Uganda will field Saint Mary’s Kisubi, London College, Makerere College, and Mbarara High, while Gitisi TSS will fly the flag for Rwanda.

The girls’ Sevens draw includes four Kenyan schools: Kinale Girls, Saint Joseph’s Kitale, Saint Theresa, and Paul Harris. Uganda will be represented by Nkoma SS and Jinja SS in what is expected to be a highly competitive showdown on the girls’ side.

With both the Fifteens and Sevens fixtures set, preparations are in full swing ahead of kickoff at Kakamega Bullring. As the countdown begins, excitement is building for what promises to be a festival of school rugby talent from across East Africa.
