The 2024 KPSEA assessment period is once again here with us. Yesterday (Friday) a total of 1,303,913 grade six learners converged to 35,573 exam centres for rehearsals in preparation for a three day assessment period that commences on Monday.

Education news learned that this year’s rehearsals went on smoothly in most centres across Rift Valley, Nyanza and Western regions. The exercise was however faced with a number of challenges in some noted centres. In some schools in the Western region, some candidates were missing in the final nominal rolls. Others were found to be sharing the same assessment numbers.

A survey in the three regions showed that a number of schools had learners who failed to turn up for the crucial exercise. Head teachers were seen trying to call the local administration and parents in a bid to locate the absent candidates.

In the same vein, Kenya national examinations council (KNEC) has been urged to decentralize it’s functions to the sub-county or even just county level. Most of the interviewed head teachers and education officers lamented that issues affecting the candidates would have been resolved had KNEC been decentralized.

Technophobic teachers had a field day trying to access CP2 portal. In some sub-counties in Nandi, some teachers missed rehearsals only to learn that they were deployed a week ago to Man the exams.
