2023 co-curricular activities’ calendar released

With the resumption of the normal school calendar, co-curricular activities have also resumed and the Ministry of Education has laid out the calendar of events in a circular released by Basic Education Principal Secretary Dr. Belio Kipsang.

The circular, seen by Education News and directed to all Regional, County and Sub County Directors of Education, and Principals of Teachers Training Colleges (TTCs) and other tertiary institutions, has outlined the 2023 co-curricular activities calendar of events as follows;

The Kenya National Drama and Film Festival will be held in Mombasa County from 20th – 30th April, 2023 at Shimo La Tewa school.

Primary school athletics will be held in term one kicking off on 21st April up to 25th April, 2023. Narok county will be the host of this event at William Ole Ntimama Stadium.

The Special Needs Education (SNE) primary school athletics will be conducted in Nairobi County at Moi Forces Academy from 21st to 26th April, 2023.

At the same time, the SNE Secondary Athletics for term one will kick off on 21st until 26th April, 2023 at Nairobi School in Nairobi County.

Athletics, Basketball, Hockey, Handball, and Swimming for Secondary School Sports in term one will be at Hill School/Moi Girls in Uasin Gishu County from 22nd to 30th April, 2023.

The Kenya Science and Engineering Fair will take place in Nyanza Region, the host of the event being Kisumu County at Kisumu Girls from 22nd to 27th April, 2023.

Dedan Kimathi University in Nyeri County will host the Kenya Music Festival as from 12th up to 23rd August, 2023 while Embu will host SNE Primary School Ball Games at Kangaru School from 8th to 14th August, 2023.

The Primary School Ball Games will be held at Maseno School in Kisumu County from 8th to 14th August, 2023 while Kangaru Girls in Embu will host the SNE Secondary School Sports on the same dates.

For Term Two Secondary School Games; soccer, volleyball, netball, rugby, and racquet games will be held at Kakamega High School in Kakamega County from 5th to 14th August, 2023.

College Athletics and Paralympics will be at Muranga TTC from 23rd to 27th May, 2023.

College Ball Games will be held at Shanzu TTC from 10th to 15th April, 2023.

Jinja/Tororo in Eastern Uganda is set to host the East Africa Music Dance and Drama as from 26th August to 3rd September, 2023.

Federation of East Africa Schools Sports Association Championship will be conducted in Bujumbura as from 15th up to 30th August, 2023.

Lastly, East Africa Essay Writing Competition for Secondary Schools will run in April 2023 when the essay topic will be issued and the awards will be given in November.
