The 2022 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examinations candidates will have to wait a little bit longer to be placed in universities as the Presidential Working Party on Education Reforms (PWPER) taskforce formed to review education is yet to submit its report.
The 173,345 candidates who made the cut to join universities have been having a hard time after a series of postponements by the Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) – the agency responsible for placement of students in different tertiary institutions.
The Working Party had earlier asked for time extension to finalise its work, however, students who opt for private institutions are eligible to process their own admissions.
According to reports, the team is seeking a one and a half month extension so that it can hand in the report before the end of the financial year in June.
At the same time, the taskforce is also expected to “review and recommend legislation to facilitate the amalgamation of HELB, TVET and University Funding boards” which will affect the number of students sponsored by the government as it will be based on the funds available.
