2 KCPE candidates give birth amidst exams in Migori

Two KCPE candidates have given birth in Migori amidst the concluded KPSEA and KCPE examinations on Wednesday.

Speaking in Migori town on Wednesday, the County Commissioner David Gitonga said that the two girls were well taken care of by the county’s officers.

He noted that over 80,000 candidates from the region participated in the examinations.

“Notably, this year, the county presented 39,143 KCPE candidates, marking an increase from the 37,596 candidates in 2022 while KPSEA had 43,137 candidates this year, up from 36,989 in 2022,” Gitonga remarked.

He attributed this rise to the Ministry of Education’s efforts in promoting compulsory free primary education and parents’ adherence to government advice, which discourages outdated practices like FGM and gender bias that had previously disadvantaged girls.

Additionally, the Commissioner highlighted that there was a balanced enrollment of both boys and girls this year.

He further noted that the county had established 815 examination centers, well-managed with careful oversight.

Gitonga also assured the public of the candidates’ security during the ongoing KCSE examinations, with over 23,000 students participating, emphasizing the readiness of his security team to handle any unforeseen incidents should they arise.

Also in attendance was Suna East Deputy County Commissioner Mikah Kariuki and County Director of Education Japheth Onyiego.
