A two-day cultural festival has kicked off in earnest in University of Embu to celebrate the rich cultural heritage of the Kenyan diverse communities.
Tucked away on the outskirts of Embu town in Manyatta Constituency, the university is awash with cultural performances, including cultural music, traditional dances, the spoken word, and rich blends of other cultural practices.
Addressing students on the official opening of the event, Deputy Vice Chancellor in charge of Academics, Research and Extension Prof Kiplagat Kotut said the cultural festival in the institution is a reflection of our rich and diverse heritage.

“The theme for this event is nurturing talent for cultural integration, which is a way of life of people in any society. Culture makes us unique and gives us a sense of identity,” said Kotut.
He urged students to utilize their rich cultural practices through presentations that will help them embrace their culture.
Further, he stated that the event is among the important activities which have been included in the college calendar and will be staged on an annual basis.
Collins Kiprop, President of the University of Embu Student Organization, lauded the university management for organizing such an event, saying it promotes cultural diversity.
Kiprop urged students not to fear showcasing their cultural practices as this gives them a sense of where they belong.
