192 teachers from West Pokot County have received training on STEM subjects by The Centre for Mathematics, Science and Technology Education in Africa (CEMASTEA).
Speaking during the inaugural training at Nasokol Girls High school where over 192 trainees and trainers were in attendance, West Pokot TSC County Director, Bernard Kimachas said that the government thought it wise to introduce CEMASTEA to all the 19 learning areas so that it can be meaningful and interesting.
“We look at the Junior Secondary School teachers with a lot of hope since you are the pioneers of our new system of Education and that’s why our Government has spent huge sums of money to ensure that you are adequately trained to meet the ever changing demands of the 21st century learners,” he said.
He stated that impartation and dissemination of information and knowledge is dynamic and that gone are the days when we had teachers who were the centre of all knowledge and stated that all lessons have to be learner centered.
The director warned teachers stating that their days were up and that no teacher shall be allowed in class without all the teaching records starting with lesson notes, lesson plans, schemes of work, teaching aids among other important resources.
“My officers will be moving round to ensure that all teachers prepare well before going to class,” He added.
He asked trainees to take all the sessions seriously since they had all been reviewed and verified as appropriate for the training, he warned them against disrespecting the staff and head teachers who may be having lower qualifications than them as it would amount to insubordination.
