16 shortlisted for TSC positions of chairperson, member

The Selection Panel appointed by President Uhuru Kenyatta has shortlisted a total of 16 candidates to fill the positions of Teachers Service Commission (TSC) Chairperson and member respectively in interviews schedule to take place from March 24 to 25, 2021 at Harambee House.

The shortlisted candidates include seven (7) candidates who will be interviewed by the Thomas Koyier-led panel to the position of Commission’s chairperson which was left vacant after Lydia Nzomo’s term ended, and nine (9) candidates who will fill the position of Commission’s member.

Among those shortlisted for the position of Commission’s Chairperson on March 24, 2021 include Jamleck Muturi John from Embu County who is the Embu County Executive Committee Member of Education and former lecturer of Embu University College and Vice-Secretary of Kenya Secondary School’s Heads Association Eastern Branch, and Dr. Lucy Mugambi from Meru County who is the former Principal of Machakos Teachers Training College.

Others are; David Koech from Nandi County who is former Mossop Member of Parliament (MP) and a member of Departmental Committee on Education, Research and Technology; and Dr. Lonah Mutoro Mumelo from Bungoma County, currently a Commissioner at  the Parliamentary Service Commission  and long Serving Principal of Moi Girls Nangili.

Other shortlisted candidates for the commission’s chairperson include David Kung’u Njoroge from Nakuru County, Samuel Gitonga Maina from Nyeri County, and Dr. Joash Aloo from Homa Bay County.

Shortlisted candidates for the position of commission member include Oyucho Timon from Kisumu, Khaemba Situma Christopher from Bungoma, Rukiya Harith Swaleh from Lamu, Murshid Abdalla Mohamed from Mombasa, Margaret Lyasai Lesuuda from Laikipia, Dr. Raymond Nyeris from West Pokot, Florence Wanjiku Njau from Nakuru, Maingi M’inoti from Meru, and Dr. Christopher Kibet Yegon from Bomet County.

The interviews for the position of the commission member are scheduled to take place on March 25, 2021, and  Members of the public have been given up to March 23, 2021 to submit any memoranda for the shortlisted persons.

Dr Nzomo was the first chairperson to be recruited competitively since the promulgation of the new Constitution in 2010. The panel will also hire one commissioner for Rift Valley after the position was not filled last year.
