Sixteen scout teams from across Kenya have qualified to represent the country at the East Africa Scouts Competition in Tanzania this December after excelling at the 2025 National Scouts Competition held at the Nairobi ASK Showground.

The national event, held under the theme “Scouts Inspiring Climate Change Resilience”, brought together schools from different regions, with the best groups advancing in drills, skills, and music band categories.

The institutions that secured slots for the regional finals are St Michael (Kilthi), Kipkeino School, St Luke’s (Embu), St Mary’s (Busia), Sega Girls (Siaya), Sawagongo CDC (Siaya), Kianyaga Boys (Kirinyaga), Kolanya Girls (Busia), Fr Oudera A (Homabay), Ugenya High School (Siaya), Lugulu Girls (Vihiga), Ng’iya Girls (Siaya), Kisti Universal, Embu TTI, Ramogi Institute, and Moto Vocational College (Trans Nzoia).

Ng’iya Girls High School, which will compete in the band category, said scouting has been vital in shaping learners. “Scouting teaches you to be strong in different situations. It has boosted my social skills, creativity, and emotional intelligence,” said 17-year-old band member Monica Njambi.

For Sawagongo CDC, which only launched its scouting programme in 2023, the qualification marks a major milestone. “Last year, we attended the East Africa competition in Uganda as observers. This year, I’m glad we are returning as competitors,” said director Felix Nyapon.

The Kenya Scouts Association emphasised that beyond competitions, scouting equips young people with leadership, environmental conservation, and community service skills.
