A 15-year-old girl has been admitted at Kenyenya Health Centre after a thorough beating by her parents that left her with serious injuries.
The schoolgirl was reportedly battered on Sunday morning after going missing the previous evening.
According to the minor, she had left home in Bunge village, Kenyenya sub-county, for her classmate’s residence to borrow a textbook when it started raining. When the rain persisted, she feared for her security and decided to spend the night and go home in the morning.
“The other girl, who is my classmate, convinced me to sleep at their home because it was dangerous for me walk home in darkness. Upon returning home, on Sunday morning, my parents beat me in turns until I collapsed,” she said, speaking at her hospital bed.
The victim, a pupil at Mokubo Primary School, said that when she came to much later, she was unable to walk as one of her legs was almost broken.
Her predicament came to light on Wednesday when area Nyumba Kumi Chairman Thomas Omambia came across her during his routine checkup.
Omabia alerted area elder, Zachary Matongo, and security officers to apprehend the parents who fled before their arrival.
He reported the matter to Kenyenya Police Station before taking the girl to hospital for wound dressing.
Matongo condemned the act terming it as beastly, and urged the Police to conduct speedy investigations and arrest the culprits.
Jane Gechemba, aunt to the assaulted girl, asked the human rights representatives in the area to intervene and seek justice for her niece.
Gechemba called on parents to be careful not to violate their children’s rights in the guise of instilling discipline.
