Some 15 minors are among the over 100 suspects who were arraigned in Naivasha Court for invading and looting Naivas supermarket  leading to a loss of goods worth over KSh70 million.

The suspects were charged virtually before Naivasha Principal Magistrate Juliana Nd’engeri on Thursday with three counts that included malicious damage and being in possession of stolen goods in the events that unfolded on Tuesday, June 25, 2024 during the national wide anti-Finance Bill protests.

The suspects were also accused of raiding the office of Naivasha MP Jane Kihara and a nearby hotel, leading to losses amounting to millions of shillings.

During the attacks, a group of youth first raided the MP’s office and the adjacent hotel before heading to the supermarket where they were arrested by the police who had arrived at the scene to restore peace and order amid the staged demos.

The suspects who were unrepresented in the court denied all the counts of charges and were released on a cash bond of KSh200,000 and a surety of the same amount or a cash bail of KSh100,000, without which they would be remanded at Naivasha Remand Prison.

The case will come up for mention on July 16.

At the same time, Naivasha OCPD Stephen Kirui, revealed that they are not leaving any stones unturned as they are heightening patrols in and around the town to keep peace as well as bringing to book those who escaped with stolen goods.

“Over 100 suspects have already been arraigned and we are seeking the stolen goods while searching for all those involved in these criminal activities,” he said.
