1300 Early Childhood Development Education (ECDE) teachers from Uasin Gishu county will be employed on permanent and pensionable terms by July this year.

Uasin Gishu governor Jackson Mandago said that the aim of his administration is to ensure that the teachers earn decently.

‘These teachers have been subjected to unethical labor practices. It’s time to look into their welfare as a way of motivating them. Other than employing them on permanent and pensionable terms, I will also increase their salaries,’ he said.

He added that if the teachers are employed on permanent terms, they would be like other civil servants.

‘The scheme of service of these ECDE teachers will also be improved. My administration has so far constructed state of the art ECDE classrooms in six sub counties namely Kapseret, Moiben, Ainabkoi, Turbo, Kesses, and Soy,’ he said.

He added that the pupil enrolment in ECDEs  across the county increased from 11,651 to the current population of 36,492.

Mandago warned parents against denying their children the right to education and said that those who do so will be arrested and charged.

‘I’m issuing a warning to parents using their children as cash cows that their days are numbered,’ he said.

He urged residents to act as his watchdog by reporting those denying their children the right to education.
