1300 ECDE teachers employed on permanent and pensionable terms

1300 ECDE teachers from West Pokot county have joined the list of teachers from other counties whose employment terms have been changed from contractual to permanent and pensionable terms.

Speaking during an ECDE nutrition and infrastructural support program, West Pokot Governor Professor John Lonyangapuo said that the county had started the implementation of the ECDE Scheme of Service and confirmed that over 100 ECDE schools had been constructed, fully equipped and launched for use.

He added that it was his sole duty to ensure that all county education programmes run smoothly.

Prof Lonyangapuo challenged the ECDE teachers to form their own union through which their concerns can be easily voiced.

He assured residents that education is still one of his government’s top agenda thus funds allocated for students’ bursary had been tremendously increased to over Shs 800 million.

Mr. Simon Kodomuk, the Chief Education Officer, confirmed that through proper supervision by coordinators, corruption had been completely eradicated and funds meant for educational programmes had been properly utilized.

Kodomuk, who is also Prof. Lonyangapuo’s running mate, said that curriculum support programmes and quality assurance had been put in place to ensure that quality education is delivered.

During the event, 54 coordinating officers were appointed.
