120,000 teachers employed since I took office, says President Kenyatta

President Uhuru Kenyatta has said that the government has since 2013 employed over 120,000 teachers in order to promote education standards in the country.

While officially opening the Kenya Secondary School Heads Association (KESSHA) National Annual Conference at  Zayed Hall in Mombasa county, the president stated that the Kenyan education system is the best  in African compared with other countries.

The president however acknowledged that Covid-19 pandemic disrupted the learning environment in the country.

At the same time, the Head of State directed all education stakeholders in the country to ensure that all school children who droped out are returned to school to continue with their studies.

“The enrolment of school children in the country increased from 1.3 million in 2018 to   to 3.2 million in 2021,” the President noted.

He lauded the secondary school heads for their goodwill in the promotion of education in the country.

On scholarships provided by the government, Kenyatta added that 9,000 bursaries have been set aside for children to join Form One next month.

The Cabinet Sectretary for Education, Prof. George Magoha said that 25.9 percent of Education Ministry budget has been directed to school infrastructure.

The CS warned principals in the country against misappropriation of infrastructure funds allocated to schools by the government.

“Infrastructure funds should be used for the intended purposes, but no to be diverted to other unplanned uses,” he stated.
