Twelve learners from Kaptembwo division in Nakuru West were yesterday admitted to various schools within Nakuru County following the government’s efforts to ensure full implementation of the 100% transition policy.

Principal Secretary, State Department for University Education and Research Amb. Simon Nabukwesi who was in the area ensured that the learners who were moped up mainly from vulnerable homes in slum areas and dysfunctional homes secured admission to various schools within Nakuru County.

The PS, who visited Uhuru high school, Nakuru west secondary and Tumaini school asked the school principals to ensure that the learners are retained in schools.

He urged teachers to encourage the learners and support them in adjusting to their respective schools.

During his visit, the PS gave fare and pocket money to an orphan, Mary Kemunto, to enable her  join Sorian high school where she had been selected to join but failed to due to lack of funds.

The PS also handed over exercise books and text books to learners.

Nakuru Country Director of Education Fredrick Osewe had earlier told the PS that the area had a huge number of learners who were out of school.  He however added that progress had been made to ensure they join form one in nearby day schools.

“The local administration has been very helpful and has supported us in getting the children from the homes. Parents have also been co-operating with us and are willing to have the children enrolled in schools, ’Osewe said.

The moping exercise entered its second week and will continue until the end of the week.
