10,000 students in secondary schools and tertiary institutions from Nyando sub county, Kisumu county have benefitted from the bursaries worth Ksh39.7 million disbursed by area National Government Constituency Development Funds (NG-CDF).

The NG-CDF committee Chairman Joseph Odada said those in day schools received Ksh3,300 each while their counterparts in boarding schools received Ksh5,300 each.

He noted further that some schools, especially day schools, have greatly benefitted from the disbursement after receiving huge amounts.

He gave an example of Lela Mixed Secondary School which received Ksh1, 946,000 as fees for the needy students.

Odada appealed to school heads not to send students home for fees.

“The funds disbursed so far can pay bills and help run other school operations,” he said.

The chairman urged parents to pay school fees on time to supplement what the NG-CDF has provided.
