At least 100 students from Kaplong Girls High School were rushed to the hospital after a fire broke out at the teachers’ quarters on Saturday in Bomet County.

One of the teachers was admitted at the hospital with minor injuries after the fire ravaged 15 temporary teacher housing structures.

St. Clare’s Kaplong Mission Hospital medical superintendent Stanley Kiplagat stated that no students got burnt.

“No students were burnt or had breathing problems but they are still recovering from shock,” he said.

Mr. Kiplagat added that most of the students were discharged from the hospital on Saturday night and those still in the hospital are suffering from other conditions like chest problems.

The school staff and members of the public had a hard time putting out the fire as they tried their best to contain the fire.

The Bomet County fire engine was unable to reach the school due to poor condition of the road.

Parents rushed to the school and camped at the gate on Sunday to ascertain the safety of their children.

It is suspected that an electrical fault in one of the structures might have caused the fire outbreak.
