At least ten mobile phones have been recovered by police at Waa Boys High School the ongoing KCSE examination, Kwale County Education Director Ahmed Mohammed has confirmed.
This is after a thorough search was conducted yesterday in the Centre with Mohammed affirming that the incident didn’t interfere with the integrity of the ongoing examination.
“At first, we found three boys with the phones, but after conducting a thorough search, we recovered six more,” said Mohamed.
The director confirmed that the mobile phones have been handed over to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), which is now investigating the matter, criticizing invigilators for failing in their duties.
“I would say the students are innocent because, if they had been properly frisked and instructed not to bring phones, this whole situation could have been avoided,” he said.
Mohamed noted that the invigilators are also being investigated and action taken to those found not to have followed the law.

He added that they have reshuffled the invigilators, assigning male supervisors to boys’ schools and female supervisors to girls’ schools.
According to the director, some students have exploited the presence of opposite-gender supervisors to conceal phones in private body parts, knowing they are less likely to be frisked thoroughly by a teacher of the opposite gender.
He reassured the public that there is no cause for alarm, emphasizing that all stakeholders are committed to safeguarding the integrity of the national exams.
