10 Matulo Girls students risk missing KCSE exams over pregnancies

Ten girls from Matulo Girls High School in Webuye West, Bungoma County may be unable to take their Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) exams due to early pregnancies.

The school Principal, Florence Ludenyo, disclosed during a recent Baraza that these candidates have consistently been absent from classes, sparking concerns.

She said that she suspected that they were pregnant and, perhaps out of shame, have not returned to school.

Ludenyo further lamented that this situation is deeply disheartening for a school that is striving to enhance its academic performance and combat traditional practices that hinder the progress of female students.

She earnestly appealed to parents and the local administration to collaborate in locating these girls and ensuring they can sit for their exams.

Additionally, the Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) Gender Representative Metrine Arabu, called upon parents and the community to assist the school in locating these ten missing students who have failed to attend classes.
