10.2 points target as Kisii School launches elaborate ‘Ten Plus Initiative’

By Emmanuel Gwakoi

Kisii High School has put together a watertight plan to produce the best 2022 results, subtly called the Ten Plus Initiative to push the school over the 10-point mark.

To improve performance, form four candidates set targets in consultation with teachers, parents and other stakeholders, who gave their input in form of suggestions and commitments to help them achieve them.

Prior to the unveiling of the plan, parents and class teachers of the form four class met as separate streams, shared challenges facing the school and resolved to support the teachers and candidates to realize the dream they initiated.

Later, they all assembled at the school’s ultra-modern hall for an academic conference to officially launch the 10 Plus Initiative, which mobilizes every partaker to play their part to reach the set target of 10 in the forthcoming KCSE in December.

Here is the breakdown of the resolve that will see them land the mark: English 9.3, Kiswahili 11.0, Maths 10.0, Chemistry 8.5, Biology 9.0, Physics 9.0, History 11.0, Geography 11.0, CRE 10.5, Electricity 11.5, Agriculture 10.0, Power Mechanics 10.5, Metal Work 11.5, Building Construction 11.0, Music 9.3, Art and Design 10.5, Business Studies 10.0, Computer 10.0, German 9.5 and French 10.0, overall mean 10.2.

The school principal Fred Mogaka said in 2015, the school’s mean score was 7.6, rising to 8.3 in 2019, 9.0 in 2020, and slightly dropped to 8.8 in 2021.

Mogaka, flanked by his deputies Edwin Nyaboga (Administration) and Henry Mosioma (Academics), challenged the candidates to work hard to attain the 2022 target and appealed to parents to pay fees in time. Also present were the Parents Association (PA) Chair Evans Atambo and  school chaplain Absalom Mochama, as well as the Director of Studies Edward Nyangoya.

The principal appealed to parents and guardians to give their children enough pocket money to support them emotionally and address their challenges to enhance their performance in the national examination.

“Dear parents, if you were to pay fees for your son, it is now. Results are very expensive to get. We have done our part, play your role,” Mogaka beseeched.

He implored them to liaise with teachers to know the progress of their children’s education and address their weak areas in time to help them pass the test.

The principal said the school admits students with over 350 marks in KCPE, and therefore the expectation was that they would all go to university, lightly advising universities to prepare in advance a place for the school’s 527 candidates.

The PA Chair Evans Atambo lauded the school for its flawless discipline, urging parents to return the favour by settling the arrears for the school to run smoothly.

“We have a target and strategies to achieve it, work plans and activities to get results. Like a good farmer, we have to provide inputs to get outputs,” Atambo explained.

Director of Studies Edward Nyangoya said the school conducts assessments regularly and asked parents to provide their children with calculators, geometric sets, mathematical tables and other important accessories for easy and convenient work.

Pastor Joshua Oindi, invited specifically to pray for the candidates, dedicated them to God and appealed to parents to pay fees in time to ease school operations and enable the candidates realize the initiative.

“I appeal to teachers and parents to play their roles,” Pastor Oindi said.

Started 85 years ago as Government African School (GAS), Kisii School has undoubtedly undergone tremendous development, producing luminaries across the professional landscape of the country.
