Sh33m library opened

Gatimbi library which was constructed and equipped at a cost of Sh33 million and set to serve about 150,000 residents of Central Imenti Constituency, Meru County is now operational.
The library was funded by the National Government through the Kenya National Library Services (KNLS) and becomes the 62nd branch to be launched countrywide in the network which spreads across 33 counties so far.
Speaking during the launch Dr Hassan Wario said that Gatimbi library is the fourth to be opened in the county.
KNLS Chairman Noah Katana Ngala called on the National Assembly to enact a law meant to fast track the transition of library services from the National Government to the devolved units.
The KNLS Chief Executive Officer Richard Atuti said locals will be given priority when employing the library staff.
Ambassador Francis Muthaura regretted that due to culture many don’t know advantages of the libraries and professionals to inform locals its benefits. By John Majau
