The cabinet Secretary for Education, Dr. Fred Matiang’i (pictured) has told teachers and parents to prepare themselves well and assist the government in the implementation of the long awaited Free Secondary Education that begins next year.
The CS said the awaited government plan to extend free education to secondary from primary school, will relieve most parents who could not afford to provide quality education to their children.
He reminded parents not to abdicate their parental obligations like the provision of basic learning materials.
Matiang’i addressed principals at Kebirigo Secondary School, parents and teachers at Masimba Secondary School in Nyamira.
He revealed that capitation for each student in a day secondary school had been increased to Sh22, 000 up from the current Sh10, 000.
‘We are going to release this money to secondary schools early January to facilitate the smooth running of schools, he said.
The CS projected that the transition rate from primary to secondary school to increase because of the increased capitation and asked various school management teams to prepare and expand their infrastructure accordingly.
