Lack of enough facilities and poor conditions is affecting learning at Moi Masol Akiriamet Academy, Located in Masol location, Central Pokot. The problem has been made worse by growing insecurity caused by cattle raiders.
The school, situated 100 kilometres from Kapenguria, has not had any pupil sitting national examinations. The area has over 40 per cent of school going children out of class even after introduction of free primary education.
Moi Masol Akiriamet Academy is the only primary school in the area and has Standard One to Seven. Although it was shut down in 1996 due to insecurity, the school is now open and admits students from both Turkana and Pokot communities.
The institution is also admitting more girls into its boarding facilities, especially those escaping from female circumcision and early marriage. It, however, lacks basic amenities.
The school, which is a day and boarding institution, has only three teachers .
The School’s Head teacher, Mr Barnabas Rimoritum said the school has a student population of 341, made up of 210 girls and 131 boys.
