19-year old Sydney Mwengi, who was crowned new Matungulu Beauty Queen is eying a career in nutrition and dietics.
Sydney who beat nine others in a hotly contested Miss Tala Beauty Pageant event held at Eagles Hotel in Tala town recently said she harbours passion for educating the public about healthy living through diet.
Sydney told Education News in an interview in Tala town that she had successfully applied for the diploma course and would be joining Kenya Medical Training College in Machakos before the end of this month.
“I love keeping fit through regular physical exercises and keeping watch on what is put on my plate. Healthy living is something we cannot ignore if we expect to live good lives,” she said.
Although she said she wasn’t surprised by her stunning performance on the stage, the pronouncement that she was ‘the best of the best’ came in utter surprise.
“It was amazing. I couldn’t believe it until the crown was fitted on my head. It was a wonderful experience and my advice to other girls who want to pursue modelling to believe in their self and not let other people to discourage them from what they want to achieve in life,” she recalls.
She said she will pursue modeling even after joining college in order to fully exploit her potential in the art.
Sydney said the Sh50,000, she was rewarded will go to her college fees.
The event was sponsored by area MP, Stephen Mule.
