EMBU County rolls out milk Programme for learners

Excitement and celebrations received the delivery of school milk to pre-school learners in Embu County.
Songs rent the air as jubilating pupils from over 300 Early Childhood Development Education (ECDE) centers each received a 200ml packet of milk recently.
Under the School Milk Programme, pre-school learners will receive the milk three times a week.
On the first day of the distribution, parents of ECDE children, pupils in the primary schools and their teachers also got the opportunity to taste the milk
Governor Martin Wambora who launched the distribution of milk at Urban and County Primary Schools in Embu town said the county will be distributing 408,000 litres of milk annually at a cost of Sh40 million.
He said the project will improve health of school children and boost the dairy sector by expanding the market for milk.
Education CEC Dr. Jamleck Muturi said the project had kicked off well in 90 percent of the ECDE centres and will start soon in the remaining ones.
Dr Muturi said the programme would have tremendous impact on the growth, development and learning ability of the young learners and expressed confidence that it will be expanded in future.
